We are nearly four weeks back in Germany and still looking back to all the things that happened to us and we are missing all the friendly and nice people, friends – old and new, we have to leave in Nova Scotia. Sadly we could not take them with us…. but Nova Scotia starts with the people. This is one sentence out of my winning video and one that I used during many interviews while in Nova Scotia.

And it’s true, without those unique people living in Nova Scotia, the province would only be one amongst others. We have found so many happy people in Nova Scotia, being proud to be Nova Scotian and proud to live where they are. And I bet, once we would take one of our friends with us, it would be just a matter of time and they would get homesick. Sometimes you have to make a step back and try to see things differently. You have to look around and to notice the beauty around you. You have to recall and get aware of all the things around you to get to know how lucky you are.

From a distance you will learn again how precious the things are and what you have. This is something that the people in Nova Scotia share with their visitors and make the strangers feel being at home and let them go as friends.

The people living in Nova Scotia have deep roots and show and share their cultures and by now we did not found any other place in the world where local and foreign cultures can exist side by side. If it is a PowWow, an “Oktoberfest”, the Highland Games, the Celtic-Colours International Festival or any other tradition or festival that can be celebrated, you will find all these in Nova Scotia.

But the people only – won’t make a country – the country itself give its distinction to the people. Nova Scotia is a treasure, with all the different landscapes, unique scenic drives, lakes, rivers and of course the ocean. The various forests from pine, hardwood to boreal woods. From the plateaus of the Cape Breton Highlands to the shores of Cape Sable Island, from the east cost to the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia is a place where you will find nature just around any corner. You just need a few minutes to be at the water, regardless where you are in Nova Scotia, whether it is a lake, a river or the sea. Rough cliffs or smooth hills, beaches or mountains you will always find hikes, trails or tracks to walk.

From a distance – in time and space – we start to imagine why the people in Nova Scotia are so proud of their province, it is so simple, it is the same we have experienced and it is the same we are missing now while being away from Nova Scotia – it is the land, the nature and the culture. It is Nova Scotia itself!
